Our school continues to offer the Trinity College London GESE (Graded Examinations in Spoken English) Preparatory Course for Primary 1 and Primary 2 students. The course is designed to build confidence in spoken English and prepare students for internationally recognised Trinity GESE exams that are appropriate for their age and level.
Taught by experienced English-speaking teachers, the course focuses on: i. Speaking and listening skills in real-life situations
ii. Asking and answering questions
iii. Talking about familiar topics and personal experiences
Lessons are interactive and enjoyable, using:
i. Short conversations and role-plays
ii. Pair and group speaking tasks
iii. Storytelling, games and simple drama activities
Typical topics include Myself and My Family, School and Friends, Animals, Clothes, Food, Hobbies, and Festivals (such as Christmas, Chinese New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival). Students’ progress from building simple sentences in P1, to more extended answers in P2. When ready, students are encouraged to attend a Trinity GESE exam.
To support home–school communication, teachers provide personalised feedback on each child’s speaking and listening, highlighting strengths and suggestions for improvement in areas such as pronunciation, vocabulary and confidence.
Through this course, our P1–P2 students gain greater confidence, clearer speech and stronger listening skills in English, while working towards the standards of Trinity GESE.
